Volvo recently announced the availability of the long-awaited 2027 EX60 in the United States, the model arriving on the market as a compact premium electric crossover SUV. Prices start at $58,400 for the entry level, adding as well destination charges, which puts the version close to $59,795.
That number feels unusual inside Volvo’s own lineup. The older EX40 still starts from $56,545 with destination included, leaving little room between both electric models. Meanwhile, the outgoing EX30 remains the brand’s cheapest EV in America at $40,345 including destination, at least while current inventory lasts.
Volvo needs momentum right now. Earlier this year, the company discontinued the V60 wagon in the American market due to weakening demand. The EX30 also disappeared from the lineup. Then came the 2026 JD Power reliability study, where Volvo ranked second-worst. Against that backdrop, the EX60 arrives carrying heavy expectations.
Production already ramped up faster than first planned. Volvo adjusted manufacturing targets before assembly even began at the end of April 2026, largely because customer demand exceeded internal forecasts. Shortly afterward, the automaker presented the new CUV during an event held in New York City and opened reservations for North America.
The 2027 EX60 enters the market with P6 or P10 AWD configurations, together with Plus and Ultra trims. A third P12 AWD version joins later. Volvo says the range-topping setup reaches up to 400 miles on a single charge. Lower in the lineup, the P6 delivers up to 307 miles, while the P10 AWD reaches 322 miles.
Top pricing rises to $67,350. Charging performance changes depending on configuration as well. The P6 handles speeds up to 320 kW, whereas P10 and P12 AWD variants increase charging capability to 370 kW.
Underneath, Volvo uses the new SPA3 electric architecture. The platform integrates cell-to-body technology, in-house-developed electric motors, mega-casting, plus a redesigned battery cell layout. Those details matter because Volvo positions the EX60 as a central piece in its American expansion plans.
Luis Rezende, President of Volvo Car Americas, described the EX60 as a vehicle tailored around core priorities for buyers in the United States. He also pointed toward the company’s long-standing safety focus together with Scandinavian design influences, while stressing range capability, competitive pricing, and straightforward charging usability for daily driving.
Volvo clearly wants this crossover to reset the conversation around the brand in America. The timing says enough on its own.
