Toyota’s crossover range in North America keeps expanding, though the market around it has started moving in a less comfortable direction. During the first quarter, Toyota Motor North America held second place in the US automotive industry with 569,420 units, a small 0.1% decline. General Motors dropped 9.7% to 626,429 deliveries, while Ford slipped 8.8% to 457,315 vehicles. Then April arrived, and newer reports claimed Toyota itself fell 4.6% to 222,378 units.

The company already has several future products in motion. Lexus recently introduced the all-new ES equipped with a hybrid setup and also revealed the new TZ globally. The three-row electric crossover stands as Lexus’ first family-focused EV SUV and shares connections with the Toyota Highlander EV and the 2027 Subaru Getaway. Toyota, meanwhile, has the 2027 Highlander EV waiting in the wings, though the article points out Americans are no longer deeply interested in zero-emission models.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Toyota hopes the all-new 2026 RAV4 helps stabilize demand once dealership inventory grows.

Against this background, digital artists have started imagining what comes next for Toyota’s smaller utility vehicles. Kleber Silva, the Brazil-based CGI creator known online as “KDesign AG,” published a virtual interpretation of a second-generation Toyota Corolla Cross. Earlier, the same artist also envisioned the next Corolla passenger car.

The Corolla Cross first entered the American market for the 2022 model year. The compact crossover rides on Toyota’s TNGA-C architecture, shared with the Toyota C-HR and the E210-series Corolla. More recently, the model received a refresh for 2026 with smaller updates across the range.

Silva’s unofficial proposal pushes the design much further. The front section adopts a closed-grille appearance paired with slim C-shaped LED daytime running lights connected through a full-width LED strip. Lower down, the main headlights sit separately in a vertical arrangement. The result looks cleaner than today’s model. Maybe cleaner is not the perfect word. More futuristic fits better.

The profile changes little from the current Corolla Cross, though the renderings retain thick plastic body cladding around the lower sections. At the rear, the CGI model gains large full-width LED taillights stretching across the tailgate area.

One extra detail hints at electrification. A charging port appears near the driver-side front section, suggesting a plug-in-hybrid configuration in the artist’s concept.

Silva did not stop with the regular crossover. The digital project also includes a larger long-wheelbase three-row version imagined as a Toyota Grand Corolla Cross.
