Honda Prelude CGI Study Reimagines the Hybrid Coupe Through a 1970s Lens

Digital automotive artists rarely stay focused on production models for long. While recent attention in the CGI community has drifted toward projects such as the 2027 Ford Bronco Filson and the imagined Audi Nuvolari, another creator chose a different path and turned his attention to Honda’s newest sports coupe.

The project comes from Mike G., head of the mike.g.concepts design studio, a group described as being “fueled by adrenaline and innovation.” Instead of embracing the direction Honda selected for the latest Prelude, the designer produced an alternative interpretation built around a completely different visual philosophy.

The starting point was the new Honda Prelude Hybrid. From there, the artist moved away from the production car’s “Unlimited Glide” identity, a theme linked to the graceful character of aerial gliders. In its place sits a much sharper grand-touring concept with styling cues borrowed from the original SN-generation Prelude introduced in 1978.

The result looks less like a modern hybrid coupe and more like a retro-inspired performance machine. Although the proportions and bodywork differ substantially from Honda’s current design, traces of the production Prelude survive. The rear section, in particular, still identifies the model quite clearly. An illuminated Honda script stretches across the center of the LED taillight assembly, preserving one of the recognizable elements of the latest car.

Mike G. described the project in his own words:

“Here is my counter-design for the new Honda Prelude. Challenging the ‘Unlimited Glide’ ethos, this design reimagines the new Prelude as a sharp, aggressive performance coupe. It rejects the fluidity of the newest release in favor of a wider, more predatory stance that demands attention on the street and on the track.”

The renderings focus exclusively on the exterior. No cabin images accompany the project, and the creator offers no details regarding a drivetrain. As a result, the exercise stays centered on styling rather than performance specifications.

The artist also summed up the concept with a short question: “Why settle for a ‘glide’ when you can choose a riot?”

Outside the virtual world, the real 2026 Honda Prelude Hybrid enters the United States market with a starting price of $42k. Buyers looking for the only listed factory option can add a Black Roof for an additional $500.

Honda’s broader sales picture showed growth in May. American Honda reported 148,903 deliveries, representing a 9.9% increase. The Honda brand itself rose 10.5%. During the first five months of the year, the new Prelude accounted for 1,470 units, a figure that provides some early context for the return of the long-running nameplate.
