First Drive: 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland Is a Fun-to-Drive SUV

The Japanese-based carmaker has released info on its latest model called bZ Woodland, a great car from my point of view, that changes the one in Toyota`s new lineup. It is an all-new model for Toyota, though “new” comes with an asterisk since it is effectively identical to the Subaru Trailseeker, differing in styling, packaging, and pricing. It is also closely related to the regular bZ, just stretched, reshaped, and given a slightly different attitude.

Toyota positions it as arguably the best all-around version of its EV, and some of that credit clearly traces back to Subaru.

Exterior

Compared to the standard bZ SUV, the Woodland grows by 5.6 inches overall, all of it added at the rear. This makes it just a bit taller, with around 0.3 inches. Also, the car features a longer tail, which provides a more traditional wagon proportion. It still mostly looks like a bZ, though, so expectations should be managed.

The Woodland rides on 18-inch wheels with more sidewall than most bZ variants, and buyers can select all-terrain tires as a no-cost option. Those tires do reduce overall range, but they suit the slightly more rugged look. Matte black plastic fenders are mandatory here, unlike the body-color option on the regular bZ, and the bumpers receive faux skid plate trim and added rugged garnish. Taller, more prominent roof rails reinforce the theme, even if ground clearance barely increases.

Interior

Inside, the changes mirror the exterior approach: familiar at first glance, different at the back. With 33.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, the Woodland easily surpasses the regular bZ’s 27.7 cubic feet. If equipped with the optional JBL audio package, space drops by 0.5 cubic feet in the Woodland and by 1.9 cubic feet in the standard bZ.

Material quality remains mixed. Upholstery can be finished in black or in an exclusive Stone Brown. Upholstered dash and door panels look nice, though other surfaces feel hard and rough, which makes the cabin seem a little cheap for its price.
